The word “salvia” derives from the roman word “salvere”’ which means to be in good health, to be well. Sage has long been used against fever, rheumatism, perspiration, sexual debility, in mental and nervous diseases and in the treatment of chronic bronchitis. In traditional medicine it is also considered antiseptic, antiscabies, antisyphilitic, and anti-inflammatory, being frequently used against skin diseases. It is also used for the relief of mild dyspeptic complaints, excessive sweating, mouth, throat or minor skin inflammations.
