OUR PRINCIPLES

Organic natural farming

We believe that our health and well-being is affected by our diet and that our food needs to regain its vitality and nutritional values through organic natural farming practices.

Our farm and produce is certified organic by Biohellas. Therefore every step in the process, from planting to distillation and packaging, follows strict E.U. rules that absolutely exclude the use of chemical pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides.

Sustainability – Biodiversity

Organic natural farming is part of our broader effort in support of a balanced, rich, energy efficient and sustainable ecosystem.

It is therefore our conscious choice to cultivate herbs rather than collect them from the wild, in order to protect natural habitats and Greek biodiversity from overexploitation.

In addition to the rules indicated by organic certification, we try to study and practice permaculture principles and methods, as well as experimenting with the biodynamic calendar and biodynamic techniques.

Energy and water use is kept to a minimum and all processes (except for the inevitable initial tilth) are done by hand (planting, weed removal, harvesting) using appropriate technologies, so that we have a close and personal overview of the plantation and reduce environmental impact.

All suitable material is composted and used to enhance the soil, with a view to building a soil rich in organic matter and maintaining an ecosystem rich in diversity and resistant to threats.

Scientific research

Herbs and essential oils have been well known since antiquity for their numerous benefits. We have recourse to scientific research and documentation in order to support with sound evidence the therapeutic values of the Greek herb varieties we grow and the products we offer, aiming at raising awareness of the importance of the origin and the certified purity of the final product.

We established scientific cooperation with the National Agricultural Research Foundation and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in an effort to bridge the gap between theory and practice, facilitating for researchers the collection and evaluation of research data “in the field”, under real conditions. This initiative has provided us with valuable information that will be available to support other farmers and we hope it will open the way for more such cooperation.

Continuous quality improvement

We try to combine traditional low-impact farming practices with suitable precision agricultural tools and modern technology, so as to be able to inspect, collect and elaborate data with a view to constant refinement and improvement of the cultivation process.

We seek suppliers who practice environmentally responsible policies and we pay special attention to the attributes of the materials used for packaging as well as to their potential for reuse or recycling.

For packaging we chose Fedrigoni’s Materica paper, which is chlorine-free and made up of 40% CTMP fibres, 25% pure environmentally friendly FSC certified fibre, 20% selected recycled material and 15% cotton fibre.

Our produce is bottled in Miron’s Violetglass containers that, through the science of biophotonics, work as a natural filter and prolong the durability and potency of products, since they offer optimal protection against the ageing processes released by natural light.

OUR VISION

Is to contribute to the widespread use of quality Greek endemic herbs and their essential oils by:

Providing reliable information on their value and the alternatives they offer.

Contributing to scientific research on their characteristics and benefits.

Supporting herb cultivation rather than uncontrolled collection from the wild, so that natural habitats are preserved and enhanced.

Commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Building an educational farm, open to everyone interested in our projects.

Sharing the knowledge and experience we gain through this ongoing endeavour, with people who believe that their actions, however limited or local, could add to a bigger effort for the changes we want to see around us.
